Broadland has not published its Christmas 2026 bin dates. Last year's came out on 16 December: rounds ran up to 2 days early, then up to 3 days late to 10 January.
Broadland District Council has not published its Christmas and New Year bin collection dates for 2026. Last year it announced them on 16 December, nine days before Christmas, so expect this year’s in the first half of December.
What we can tell you now is last year’s pattern, which days this year are going to move, and the parts of the festive service that do not change year to year.
The quick answer
- 2026 dates are not out yet. Last year’s were published on 16 December 2025.
- Three rounds are certain to move: Friday 25 December, Monday 28 December (the Boxing Day substitute) and Friday 1 January are all bank holidays.
- No garden waste for two weeks. Last year the brown bin stopped from 22 December to 2 January.
The three days that will have to move
The bank holidays fall differently this year. According to GOV.UK’s bank holiday list, Christmas Day is a Friday, Boxing Day falls on a Saturday so the holiday moves to Monday 28 December, and New Year’s Day is a Friday.
That means the Friday, Monday and Friday rounds are the ones without a normal collection day. In 2025 the holidays fell on Thursday, Friday and Thursday, so last year’s revised dates do not map straight onto this year’s calendar. Do not reuse them.
What happened last Christmas
These are the 2025/26 dates, published by the council on 16 December 2025 (Broadland collections move forward before Christmas). They are not this year’s dates. They show the shape the council uses: early before Christmas, late after it, with the catch-up running well into January.
| Normal day | Collected on | Change |
|---|---|---|
| Monday 22 December | Saturday 20 December | 2 days earlier |
| Tuesday 23 December | Monday 22 December | 1 day earlier |
| Wednesday 24 December | Tuesday 23 December | 1 day earlier |
| Thursday 25 December | Wednesday 24 December | 1 day earlier |
| Friday 26 December | Monday 29 December | 3 days later |
| Monday 29 December | Tuesday 30 December | 1 day later |
| Tuesday 30 December | Wednesday 31 December | 1 day later |
| Wednesday 31 December | Friday 2 January | 2 days later |
| Thursday 1 January | Saturday 3 January | 2 days later |
| Friday 2 January | Monday 5 January | 3 days later |
| Week of 5 January | One day later throughout | Until Saturday 10 January |
Two details from that notice are worth carrying into this year. The council asks for bins to be out by 6.30am on the revised day, and it points people to the Broadland bin app for reminders. There were no garden waste collections between 22 December and 2 January.
Christmas trees
If you have a Broadland garden waste bin, last year the council’s advice was to leave your real tree next to it between 5 and 16 January. South Norfolk residents were told to cut theirs up and put it in the bin, so check you are reading the Broadland line (Councils urge residents to recycle smarter this Christmas, 16 December 2025).
The same notice said real trees can also go to Norfolk County Council’s recycling centres.
The tips over Christmas
Norfolk County Council runs the recycling centres, not Broadland. The two in the district are Strumpshaw (Stone Road, NR13 4HR) and Norwich North (Morse Road, Horsham St Faith, NR10 3JX). Both are open 9am to 4pm every day except Wednesday, including bank holidays, apart from Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day (Strumpshaw Recycling Centre).
- You must book, even on foot. Slots are free and open a week ahead.
- Strumpshaw will not take fridges or freezers. Because of a national shortage of processing sites, Norwich North is now one of only seven Norfolk sites that do.
- The reuse shops need no booking.
Christmas Day is a Friday this year, so the Wednesday closure lands on 23 and 30 December as usual. Read our bin collection days page for rounds, garden waste and bulky waste prices.
Still to be confirmed
- The 2026/27 revised dates. Expected in the first half of December. We will add them here the day they are published.
- The Christmas tree window. Last year’s was 5 to 16 January.
If you are travelling over the holiday, our Christmas trains and buses page covers what is known so far, and roadworks and parking have their own pages.
